Nanocavities with deep sub-wavelength confinement allow to realize lasers based on a single or a few quantum dots, yet achieving ultra-high-speed and offering promise of squeezed quantum noise. Such lasers could be key components in future on-chip interconnects in computers, leading to reduced energy consumption and heating.
