We study theoretically and experimentally the relaxation time of a perturbation in a solid state laser. We analyze the conditions in which the critical slowing down is a good indicator indicator of an approaching bifurcation. We measure the relation time before and after the bifurcation takes place with a control parameter that is swept linearly in time across a transcritical bifurcation.

J. Tredicce has dual nationality; Italian and argentina. He was born in 1953. Actually he is Honorific Professor at the University of Rey Juan Carlos in Madrid, Spain. He was researcher at the Institute of Optics in Florence, Italy, Professor at Drexel University, Usa, then Profesor at the University of Nice, and professor at the University of New Caledonia. He was director of the Institut NonLineaire de Nice from 2002 to 2012.
